DESCRIPTION:
       \n \nRegistration at site is NOT possible!\n \nFrom a conservative t
o an invasive approach\nPreface\nDemographic characteristics in the Nether
lands Antilles are similar to those in the Northeastern part of The Nether
lands. The presence of multiple risk factors such as overweight\, smoking\
, diabetes\, hypertension and hypercholesterolemia are associated with low
socio-economic status and related to a high incidence and prevalence of c
oronary artery disease\, morbidity and mortality. Therefore\, an invasive
program was initiated in Drenthe in 2009.\nIn the Netherlands access to in
vasive cardiac care (percutaneous coronary intervention\, PCI) was optimiz
ed from 2005 to improve service delivery in acute coronary syndrome especi
ally for subjects with an acute ST segment elevation myocardial infarction
(STEMI). Reorganization of service delivery was guided by guidelines crea
ted by the Netherlands society of cardiology and controlled by the supervi
sory board of health care.\nConsidering Dutch operational guidelines it wa
s impossible to initiate a similar invasive cardiac care system in the Dut
ch Antilles. Yet\, several skilled Antillean pioneers succeeded to initiat
e PCI programs in Curacao and Aruba.\nStill\, these programs are challengi
ng because of the relative low adherence per PCI center\, the absence of s
urgical backup on location or easy accessibility. The limited resources an
d sometimes just in time management of materials for daily use make it a c
hallenging event for both doctors\, nurses and the unaware patients.\nThis
meeting will give insight into the results of these programs and will fac
ilitate collaboration between the leeward and windward islands of the Neth
erlands Antilles. Participants within the entire chain of survival (genera
 l practitioners\, policy makers\, ambulance personnel\, cardiac surgeons\,
cardiologists\, intensivists\, nurses and cardiac revalidation experts) f
or the cardiac patient will contribute to the discussion to further improv
e service delivery. We hope to meet you at this interesting conference.\n
